Input guide
From flowchart screenshot to a Draw.io draft
Prepare one readable image, check the quote, then compare the generated shapes and arrows before using the editable file.
- PNG, JPG or WebP
- 2,000,000 bytes max
- 25 credits
01
How do I turn a screenshot into an editable Draw.io file?
Crop the screenshot to the flowchart, keep labels and arrowheads readable, and save it as PNG, JPG, or WebP no larger than 2,000,000 bytes. In the workbench, sign in, confirm your rights, and check the 25-credit quote before submitting. Inspect the proposed nodes and connectors, then download .drawio and open it in diagrams.net. The output is a working draft, not a pixel-accurate recreation.
02
Prepare, convert, and open the file
Crop to the useful diagram
Keep every box, label, arrowhead, and return loop in frame. Remove surrounding browser or slide chrome and unrelated private information before upload.
Check legibility and file type
Use a clear PNG, JPG, or WebP image no larger than 2,000,000 bytes. Tiny text, overlapping connectors, and faint arrowheads increase the need for manual review; other formats are not accepted by this workbench.
Read the quote before submission
Sign in, choose the image, confirm your rights to use it, and check availability, balance, and the current 25-credit quote. New accounts do not receive free conversion credits.
Review and download
Compare detected labels, boxes, decision branches, and arrow directions against your screenshot. Download the saved .drawio file, or make supported label and position edits in the workbench and export that edited copy.
Open in diagrams.net
In the diagrams.net editor, choose File > Open From > Device and select the downloaded .drawio file. This path is described in the official draw.io open-file guide. Importing into an existing canvas is a separate File > Import action.
03
What the formats do and do not mean
An ordinary screenshot is a flat reference image. The downloadable .drawio file contains proposed shapes and connectors; opening the screenshot itself in Draw.io does not create those editable objects. The draw.io format guide identifies .drawio as an XML-based native diagram file.
This tool is aimed at clear flowcharts. It has not been verified for PPT, PSD, arbitrary hand-drawn sketches, or exact reconstruction. Keep the original image beside the draft and use the review checklist before publishing.
See the home page for one saved input and result, or check pricing before a new conversion.
04
Before you upload
Will a .drawio file look identical to my screenshot?
No. The tool proposes a structured draft. Fonts, spacing, shapes, and routes may differ, and you should inspect each connection.
Can I submit a PDF or slide deck directly?
The workbench currently accepts image/png, image/jpeg, and image/webp files only. It does not accept PDF, PPT, or PSD files.
Does the workbench edit every relationship?
You can edit title, node labels and positions, and connector labels. Rewiring which nodes a connector joins is outside the workbench editor; review the .drawio source in diagrams.net.
Should I open or import the downloaded file?
Use File > Open From to open the .drawio file as a diagram. Use File > Import only when you intend to add it to an existing diagram, following the draw.io guidance linked above.
Start with one clear flowchart
Check the 25-credit quote and current availability in the workbench before you submit.
